Hello, my name is...
Your identity is your destiny!
Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation; the old has gone, the new has come! (2-Cor. 5:17)
God had specific reasons for giving people certain names before they were even born:
Jesus – the Lord is Salvation
John (the Baptist) – God’s grace (John prepared the way for Jesus, who was indeed the grace of God sent to us)
Why God changed names of people?
It was usually to establish a new identity.
Abram – exalted father (Genesis 17:5)
Abraham – father of many
Jacob – Supplanter (to take the place of (another), as through force, scheming, strategy, or the like.) – Gen. 32:2
Israel – perseveres. having power with God
Lo-Ruhamah – Not having obtained mercy, not pitied (Hosea 2:23)
Ruhamah – “one who was spared”, “one who received the feelings of mercy and pity”
Lo-Ammi – not my people (Hosea 2:23)
Ammi – my people
Sarai – princess (Genesis 17:15)
Sarah – mother of nations
Simon – God has heard
Peter – Rock (Matthew 16:18)
Benjamin – Son of my right hand
From the Hebrew name בִּנְיָמִין (Binyamin) which means “son of the south” or “son of the right hand”. Benjamin in the Old Testament was the twelfth and youngest son of Jacob and the founder of one of the southern tribes of the Hebrews. He was originally named בֶּן־אוֹנִי (Ben-’oniy) meaning “son of my sorrow” by his mother Rachel, who died shortly after childbirth, but it was later changed by his father.Son of the morning
Another name for ‘Lucifer’ (Latin: literally meaning ‘light bearing’) has not always been associated with the fallen angel, Satan. Originally, it was simply the Roman name of the planet Venus, the ‘morning star’ that rose just before the sun. … (God was the SUN… Lucifer was VENUS that was seen right before the SUN came out. Sadly enough, he wanted to become the SUN) In Isaiah 14:12, we find the Hebrew phrase, “HeYLeL BeN-ShaCHaR”, meaning ‘bright son of the morning/dawn’ (i.e. ‘bright/glowing morning star’). In the Greek version of the Old Testament (the Septuagint), this was translated as ‘Phosphorus’ (the Greek name of the morning star), and thence translated ‘Lucifer’ in the Latin Vulgate bible. Isaiah chapter 14 probably condemns the arrogance of the kings of Babylon who considered themselves glorious as the morning star, yet fell to earth. However, due to a confusion of the passages Isaiah 14:12, Luke 10:18 and Revelation 12:7-10, the name ‘Lucifer’ became applied to the Devil.

When the Lord has given you rest from your pain and turmoil and the hard service with which you were made to serve, you will take up this taunt against the king of Babylon: How the oppressor has ceased! How his insolence has ceased! … How you are fallen from heaven, O Day Star, son of Dawn! How you are cut down to the ground, you who laid the nations low! You said in your heart, “I will ascend to heaven; I will raise my throne above the stars of God; I will sit on the mount of assembly on the heights of Zaphon; I will ascend to the tops of the clouds, I will make myself like the Most High.” But you are brought down to Sheol, to the depths of the Pit. Those who see you will stare at you, and ponder over you: “Is this the man who made the earth tremble, who shook kingdoms, who made the world like a desert and overthrew its cities, who would not let his prisoners go home?
God changed your name
Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation; the old has gone, the new has come! 2-Cor. 5:17
2 Cor 5:17 (New Living Translation) This means that anyone who belongs to Christ has become a new person. The old life is gone; a new life has begun!
God gave you a new name, a new identity, therefore a new destiny. If you were called a sinner, then not anymore. By His blood, Jesus paid the price so your name would be changed from Lo-Ruhamah to Ruhamah, from Lo-Ammi to Ammi. (see name definitions above)
Besides the name you have right now, God had prepared a new name that He will give to the winners and conquerors. We have a future to live, we have wars to fight, and souls to save. Be a strong warrior in God’s army and you will have that secret name.
Rev. 2:17 (The Message) Are your ears awake? Listen. Listen to the Wind Words, the Spirit blowing through the churches. I’ll give the sacred manna to every conqueror; I’ll also give a clear, smooth stone inscribed with your new name, your secret new name.
Rev. 2:17 (New Living Translation) Anyone with ears to hear must listen to the Spirit and understand what he is saying to the churches. To everyone who is victorious I will give some of the manna that has been hidden away in heaven. And I will give to each one a white stone, and on the stone will be engraved a new name that no one understands except the one who receives it.
